Wanting to Get Out and Enjoy the Snow With Your Pup?
Cross country skiing is a great form of exercise during the winter and the best part is you can go skiing with your dog! Crosscut Mountain Sports Center in Bridger Canyon, just north of Bridger Bowl, allows cross country skiing with dogs on specific days and on labeled groomed trails.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays after 3pm, you can use the trails south of Whiskey Gulch with your dog. You can have your dog off leash, but he/ she must be under voice control and your dog can show no aggression towards other dogs. Of course, it goes without saying you should be a good dog parent and pick up after your dog. There are waste stations by the nordic center and the pump house. See the link below for a trail map and information on trail passes.

Crosscut offers rentals and lessons so you can enjoy the trails with your dog even if you do not have the gear.
If you already know how to ski and want to take skiing to the next level you can consider ski-joring with your dog. This can be super fun! It involves using a padded harness for your dog and an elasticized cord that attaches to your waste using a special belt. This allows your dog to run in front of you, but remain attached. Obviously this will take practice and training, but it truly is an amazing experience -harnessing your dog's power to help you slay the trails. Ski Joring is not for the new skier since you need to be in control on your skis to help train your dog. For the dog, a desire to run and enjoy pulling are the only requirements- although responding to your commands would be very helpful!
Of course, you can also ski with your dog in Hyalite Canyon on the groomed trails. These trails are kept well groomed thanks to Bridger Ski Foundation and the Forest Service. Please consider purchasing a trail pass from BSF if you plan to use the trails. The trail pass helps offset the costs of their grooming efforts throughout the community.
