For us humans, there is nothing better than warm soup on a cold winter’s day, right?   Did you know that ‘broth" for your dog (i.e. “soup” for humans) comes with amazing health benefits too?

Bone broth is gaining popularity in the pet industry for it’s amazing health benefits. Those benefits can be  the same for you and your furry family member.  Read on to see the amazing things bone broth can do for your pet.

Bone broth is shown to boost the immune system by utilizing three specific amino acids: Cysteine, Arginine and Glutamine.

Bone broth can decrease inflammation via amino acids. The amino acids that help regulate inflammation are Cysteine, Histidine, Glycine and L- Glutamine. L- Glutamine specifically acts in the gastrointestinal tract decreasing gut inflammation and permeability of the intestinal lining. This is important to remember if your pet suffers from Inflammatory Bowel Disease, food allergies or just has an upset tummy.

The calcium, phosphorous, vitamin D and magnesium in broth all play a role in strengthening bones and teeth. For this reason, broth can be a good addition to growing puppies and kittens.

Broth is great for hydration especially after exercise. It provides water, but also supplies electrolytes and carbohydrates to replenish your pup after a long hike or ski.

Amino acids are required for ongoing growth, repair and maintenance of skeletal muscle. Amino acids in the broth flex their super powers again by helping with muscle synthesis.

The anti- inflammatory properties help with pain, so it is great for our older dogs with arthritis and other "senior " conditions.

Bone broth can help clear mucus in the respiratory tract and provides easily digestible nutrition for your pet when they are under the weather or may not be eating. This is something to keep in mind in the colder winter months, or as we see more kennel cough in the valley.
